Set Up for Success

All runners have goals.

Some simply want to maintain fitness and avoid injury while others want to chase personal bests, get a BQ or run an ultra.

The bigger the goal, the bigger the investment - of time, money, and physical and emotional energy. Our success in big goals depends on choosing the right time to tackle them when we can make those investments.

I have runners who don’t run fall marathons because they live in the south. Trying to prepare through the scorching summer heat is something they do not want to suffer through. They strategically plan for spring marathons only.

Meanwhile, I have a first time marathoner who specifically chose to prepare for a fall marathon this year when a busy work situation finally eased off. They now have the time, energy and resources available to invest in training.

I’ve been doing some goal setting too, and I’m practicing what I preach.

With a baby on the way the best goal for Sifuentes Coaching isn’t a big lofty goal of growth. Taking on new clients while figuring out how to be a parent is hardly a recipe for success, so my goal is to serve my current roster of runners as well as possible.

But this is just a season, and Sifuentes Coaching won’t be in maintenance mode forever. I look forward to working with new runners in the fall! If you want to be one of them, I’d love to help you set yourself up for success. Phone consultations are still open!

Sincerely,
Nicole

Performance of the Month

Dusko aced his first ultra race post-injury.

“The 6-Hour Island Time Ultra was my first race since recovering from a stress fracture (hip) in 2020. My goal was 35-40 miles and although it wasn't pretty, I completed 36 miles in 5:56:09, which was good for 2nd place.

In the past six months, Nicole has helped me recover from an injury, stay healthy and become a better runner, both mentally and physically.

Qualifying for Boston is a goal I'll be chasing this fall - I'm excited to continue working toward that goal!”

Think you should “fix” your form? Think again!

I loved this episode from @tommie_runz podcast, the RUN EAT SLEEP SHOW

“…generally, people move the way they move and you have to be careful about making too big of a change.

Sometimes I’ll see runners who are injured who have heard that a heel strike is bad, they’ll try to go to a forefoot strike, and they’ll end up with a different injury.”
