All or Nothing…or SomethingLast month, I put a race on the calendar, bumped up my volume & strength training (a bit), and added a weekly workout. It went great until I started to crash and burn with unexpected fatigue. I’d thought my training increase was sustainable… but it wasn’t. My instinct was to either PTI (power through it) and Stick To The Plan! Or simply take a break from training altogether. But that “all or nothing” mindset is, in my opinion, one of the worst ways to approach an endeavour. Progress involves consistency and commitment. Not perfection. So instead of all or nothing, I did something - I did less. Shorter runs, more days off, easier workouts. Changing the plan can sometimes feel like cheating, or evidence of weakness. But that isn’t true. Even less training is still training. It’s still a step in the right direction. And it feels good to keep moving forward. Sincerely, Nicole
