It Might Happen

I don’t normally associate the month of September with track running, but this year was different. The World Championships took place from Sept 13-21 and on that last day I ran a track race myself!

The championships this year featured a number “surprise” or “upset” performances. Several underdog athletes ended up bringing home medals, and it was very fun to witness.

These performances reinforce the fact that hard work and showing up really can pay off big time.

There are no guarantees in running. Hard work, patience and discipline can’t ensure we achieve our goals, but these same things are what give us a chance.

We prepare and line up and we dream. Because it might happen.

Sincerely, Nicole

Athlete Features

Congratulations to Boston Qualifiers Alejandro(L) & Torri(R) who were officially ACCEPTED to the 2026 marathon field!

Alejandro secured his spot in the starting corral with a 2:48:52 performance at this year’s Boston Marathon. 2026 will be his 6th time running this historic race.

Torri hit her BQ with 3:59:50 at the Mesa Marathon, but we knew it wouldn’t be fast enough to get accepted. So Torri chose a last-chance race and trained harder than ever through the summer. She ran a big PB of 3:55:13 on Sept 7 and is now heading to Boston for the first time!

I loved this interview. This is an athlete who has been through many disappointments but remained hopeful and was rewarded with a huge performance.

Upsets of the World Championships:

Here are some of stand-out moments from worlds!

Uruguay’s Julia Paternain holds up 3 fingers in disbelief as she’s told by an official that she placed 3rd in the marathon.

Isaac Nader of Portugal is shocked after becoming the World Champion over 1500m.

Kiwi George Beamish reacts as he upsets the heavy favourite in the last second, winning gold in the steeplechase.

Kenyan Dorcas Ewoi screams as she dives at the line in the 1500m. She set a 5 second PB to grab the silver medal. (This photo makes me cry.)

Rest Periods in Training

Taking a break from focused training doesn’t require staying sedentary for days on end. In fact I advise against this especially for older runners.
