Getting ThereDuring races or hard workouts, I encourage runners to stay in the moment instead of thinking ahead about the finish line. When there’s still a long way to go, it can be discouraging to think about distance between where we are and where we’re going. It’s easier to stay focused and committed over small intervals of time or distance. Same goes for the winter. It helps to not think too far ahead. Last month I wrote about consistency in training through the cold, dark, snowy days. I suggested we adjust training one day at at time and take advantage of the good days. Little did I know how few “good days” there would be. The past month has been brutal - full of treadmill days and cancelled workouts. But now we’re entering the final stretch. By taking one day at a time, the days ticked by. We’re nearing the end of winter and what better motivation is there than the finish line coming into view? This year, we not only anticipate springtime but the opportunity to run in races again. There is so much to look forward to, so we should do just that. Time to turn our focus forward! Sincerely, Nicole
