Real vs. IdealWhen I was as a professional runner, my goal was to train the “ideal” way. My workout schedule (and sleep schedule) took top priority so I could train as much as my body would allow. Now, I’m a recreational runner, just like the runners I coach. I have a job that isn’t running, a precious 3-year-old and less flexibility than ever. I can relate to my clients’ busy lives where we’re all figuring out how running fits in. We aren’t thinking about the very best way to set up our training schedule. Instead, we’re deciding which day of the week we could manage a long run. We’re debating if we should do a late-night workout or just skip it altogether — because pushing the workout to tomorrow isn’t feasible. But getting results does not require “ideal” training. It just requires training. Consistent, smart training. Doing good work when we can. Sincerely, Nicole
