Sure, sometimes the summer heat doesn’t mean speed. It can be so frustrating to feel sluggish and slow in the humidity, and I know what it’s like to suffer in the sun. ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌

June 2022

Speeding Up

This is my favourite time of year, as a runner, a coach, and as a regular human being :)

I love the long days, the warm nights, and the fast workouts.

Sure, sometimes the summer heat doesn’t mean speed. It can be so frustrating to feel sluggish and slow in the humidity, and I know what it’s like to suffer in the sun.

But there’s no ice to slip on!

No second layer of clothing to drag us down!

Whether we have hill repeats or an interval workout, we can literally run faster during this time of year. And running fast is fun.

While not all runners have a need for literal speed, even the marathoners are beginning to build momentum for their quickly approaching fall races. In a sense, most of us are speeding up as the summer flies by. Let’s make sure to pause and enjoy it while we can!

Sincerely,
Nicole

Nicole’s Curated Content

Check out @jasonandlaurenpak for a TON of helpful lessons on strength training. Their content is not specific to running but runners can benefit so much from these two!

Meme of the Month 🤣

Another reminder that how you ACTUALLY FEEL is the best way to guide your training.

For the Desk Jockeys- here’s your new pre-run exercise:

Did you know that sitting can make your glutes stop working properly?

When this happens, other muscles will work harder to compensate when we run (particularly in the low back and hamstrings).

This leads to tight hammies and low back pain, not to mention less running power because your cannons (the glutes) aren’t firing!

A few (5-8) quality reps of the Glute Bridge will get your booty ready to run! Longer demo video here.

How to Make Running Easier

it’s important to know that running is hard for everyone who hasn’t been running. Even olympic runners don’t feel good when they return to training after taking a break.
