Doing The HomeworkMy half marathon is coming up in less than 2 weeks. (It’s the DXA2 and several of you are running it as well!) This will be my first race since my son was born. Many months ago, I set the goal to run under 90 minutes. I’ve been coaching myself, but recently while chatting with my former coach I gave him a summary of my training and asked - “do you think I can go sub-90?” He gave me his vote of confidence but also said, “you’ll need a good day, because if the weather is really hot, your lack of homework will show.” And that’s the truth. I haven’t done enough homework (A.K.A. training) to be truly confident on the start line. But you know what? I’ve done way more homework than I would have done without this goal. What is the real purpose of a goal? It provides focus. A goal is our reason to do the workouts, to challenge ourselves, and to keep improving. I have made so much progress. Regardless of the race result, a new goal is already in my mind. I can’t wait to do some more homework. Sincerely, Nicole
