Deep into winter, we’re getting the work done on treadmills, tiny indoor tracks, or outside in the dark, sometimes in frigid weather — whatever it takes.
Meanwhile, the days are getting longer and spring doesn’t seem like such a distant dream anymore.
Winter training is always challenging but the toughest part can be the lull in excitement. Races are few and it’s hard to do any really key workouts because we’re stuck on the treadmill or on slippery roads. As a coach I’m already looking forward to the running that you’ll be able to do when the weather turns.
In the meantime, keep it up! These chilly, dark runs or boring treadmill miles are as good as gold. The training you are doing now and the consistency through winter will open so many possibilities for the racing season ahead. It’s exciting to think about the untapped potential waiting to be discovered.

Alicia won her age group at the Blake’s Frost Fest earlier this month!
Her comments on the day:
“Worst race conditions I've run in. Pouring down rain, super windy, cold. Course was flooded, either running through 8inches of water or thick mud. Decided to make the best of it and do the best I could. Running uncomfortably in previous workouts really helped me get through this.”
Words of a true competitor. Proper preparation leads to success — with a fighting attitude! Congrats Alicia on your inspirational performance.
