A ROUGH PATCHIt happens to the best of us. Training is going great, workouts are starting to click, volume is ramping up, and bam. We hit a bump in the road. Usually it’s some kind of injury forcing us to stop training. But illness, life and family responsibilities, or even a stretch of terrible weather can derail our plans. We try to avoid the rough patches but it’s not always possible. In fact we can count on at least one or two bumps on the way to the start line. And when things get rough, we adjust the plan. We coast, or pause, we regroup, and get back on track. Training is physical preparation, but the rocky times are our mental preparation. Interruptions and frustrations in training force us to pivot and adapt. We learn patience. We learn how to manage our body. When race day comes, we can line up with confidence because we know we don’t need a perfectly smooth road to the finish line. We have the experience to tackle whatever lies ahead. Sincerely, Nicole
