The ComebackLast Monday I got injured. I pulled my hip flexor doing warmup lunges too aggressively. (There’s a reason the words “warmup” and “aggressive” should not ever be in the same sentence.) Injuries happen. We do everything we can to avoid setbacks but sometimes all it takes is one false move (a vigorous reverse lunge, in my case) to end up on the sidelines. Working through an injury is frustrating and treatment can be costly, taking up both time and money. The road to recovery is usually a bit bumpy.
But it’s worth it.
In the past week I’ve taken 5 days off running and had two shockwave treatments. I’m back to running now but not out of the woods. My hip flexor isn’t 100% better. I think being sidelined helps us appreciate how good it feels to run totally pain free, without holding back, and without constantly evaluating our pain level. So don’t settle for a level of pain or discomfort that is “manageable.” The end goal is always complete healing. Sincerely, Nicole
