Why I RunA few weeks ago my father-in-law (a runner himself) asked me what running will be for me “now.” Now that I’m retired from professional sports. Now that I’m a toddler mom. Now and moving forward, essentially. I’d been asking myself this same question for a while already, and this is what I’ve learned so far: Most of the time, I have no desire to actually run the local road races I’ve signed up for. Long slow boring runs are never appealing, and sometimes my motivation to run is nonexistent. But it feels so good to be fit. Ripping a hard workout is (to me) the best feeling in the world. And in order to do that, I need a goal race to get me out the door consistently and I need to occasionally do a long slow boring run. When you know your reasons for running (whatever they may be) the hard parts seem easier because you know how they serve you. They are the key to getting what you want. Sincerely, Nicole
