Keep the GoodI see warnings all over the internet about anything that isn’t IDEAL, the BEST, or that has the potential to cause problems. Here are some examples: Fix your running form! Weight vests are a waste of time! Processed food is junk! But imperfect running form doesn’t mean you’re going to get injured. Or, just because a weighted vest won’t improve your bone density doesn’t make it pointless. Wearing one can still help you get stronger and fitter. And we know that fresh foods are best, but actually most processed foods provide vitamins and nutrients. And all of them have calories (energy). Last month’s newsletter featured my Bare Minimum Strength Training program with only 2 exercises. It’s far from an ideal or complete program, but it’s a great start. We are free to take value from tools, concepts, and foods even if they aren’t “ideal.” Instead of rejecting something that isn’t the best of the best, consider the benefits that are available. This is a more optimistic way to navigate our running and fitness experience. Sincerely, Nicole
