Getting It “Right” As a student I used to hate writing papers because there was no answer key. Math suited me better. It was actually kind of fun to solve problem sets.
I wanted to figure out all the right answers for my running, too. My sports psych characterized me as trying to become an expert about myself. But in coaching it quickly became clear that my idea of what works in training really didn’t work for some people. (Or even sometimes for myself!) Yes, there are training concepts (things like recovery, stimulus, variety) that can be universally true. How to apply these concepts depends on the individual. We are humans, not robots. Coaching challenges me to constantly re-evaluate the workouts I write, my scheduling, and my suggestions. Every recommendation has to be considered with a specific person in mind. There’s no “right” way to train, but there are endless ways to make progress. Sincerely, Nicole
