Simple Strength Workout for Runners

Here’s my strength training program that was featured in Self Magazine’s online publication self.com.

I designed this workout for all the new runners lacing up during the pandemic. But even if you aren’t new to running, this is a great way to start strength training.

The 8 exercises in this workout are:

  1. Glute Bridge

  2. Dead Bug

  3. Step-Up + Knee Raise

  4. Lateral Lunge Shift (side squat)

  5. Elevated Push Up

  6. Forearm Side Plank Hip Dip

  7. Forearm Plank Rock (body saw)

  8. Superman with arm extension

Self Magazine has great demos for each exercise. In the article I explain why strength training is so important for runners and how to perform each exercise.

Read the full article, complete with detailed instructions for each exercise and demo videos.
